Hysterosalpingography is a gynaecological technique to assess tubal patency, i.e. whether the fallopian tubes are patent or not.
If the result of the hysterosalpingogram establishes that the fallopian tubes are patent, but a natural pregnancy is not achieved, gestation may be attempted by artificial insemination (AI). In this case, it is important that the woman is under 36 years of age and has a good ovarian reserve.
Otherwise, if she does not meet these requirements and/or her fallopian tubes are blocked, then in vitro fertilisation may be the best option to attempt gestation.
