When performing an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle, fertilization can be performed in two ways: conventional IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). However, it is important to mention that it is very common to refer to conventional IVF only as IVF.
ICSI originated as a solution to cases of severe male factor infertility. However, ICSI is now widely used in assisted reproduction centers for various indications and has often replaced the use of conventional IVF.
