What is jaundice in the baby?

Jaundice, i.e., yellowing of the baby's skin and even eyes, is quite common and is caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the newborn's blood.

This may occur physiologically due to the immaturity of the baby's liver, since this is the organ that facilitates the elimination of bilirubin. In this case, jaundice will be mild and will appear around 2-4 days after delivery and finally disappear without treatment in about 2 weeks.
