Men, like women, also produce luteinizing hormone or LH once puberty arrives. In this case, LH is responsible for secreting androgens, which are responsible for the appearance of secondary characteristics.
An adult male contains about 1-9 mIU/mL of LH hormone. If the amount of this hormone is higher than this figure, then it may be due to a possible case of Klinefelter's disease, absence of testicles or anorchia, or the presence of a pituitary tumor, for example. On the other hand, if the amount of LH is lower than the reference level in the male population, then it could be due to an eating disorder or a suppression at the level of the hypothalamus.
