Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast, which may or may not be accompanied by an infection. It is commonly associated with breastfeeding and has been found to occur more frequently during the second and third weeks postpartum. Most studies indicate that between 74% and 95% of cases occur within the first 12 weeks.
Some of the most common symptoms of mastitis include:
- Fever
- Pain
- Breast inflammation
- Cracked nipples
