All cells in the body are known as somatic cells and are diploid. This means that the cells have duplicate information. The exception is sex cells, i.e., eggs and sperm cells, which are haploid cells with a single copy of information.
Thus, when the union of the egg and sperm occurs at fertilization, the resulting zygote will have duplicated information.
