What does micro-TESE mean?

Micro-TESE is a complementary technique in assisted reproduction that consists of performing a testicular biopsy together with microscopic amplification. Its purpose is to find spermatozoa that will later be used in an in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

The advantage of this procedure for obtaining sperm is that it makes it possible to identify through the surgical microscope the areas of the testicle with the greatest probability of finding sperm. It is an alternative to the more usual random testicular biopsy.

The micro-TESE is recommended for those men who lack spermatozoa in their ejaculate and is always performed under anesthesia. Therefore, the patient will not feel pain during the operation.
