One possible way to prevent the occurrence of migraines during menstruation is by stabilizing estrogen levels through estrogen supplementation in forms such as cutaneous, transdermal or subcutaneous. In addition, serotonergic agonists, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and magnesium supplements can be used.
Another therapeutic alternative for the treatment of migraines during the menstrual cycle is to resort to the use of oral contraceptives composed of low estrogen concentration. However, this strategy may be beneficial for some women, but not for others.
