A miscarriage is considered spontaneous or involuntary when the fetus is lost before the 20th week of gestation or weighing less than 500 grams. The causes of miscarriage are various and can be classified into both fetal and maternal causes.
In addition, there are a number of risk factors for miscarriage since they increase the likelihood of gestational complications. Some of them are listed below:
- Insufficient diet.
- Smoking mother.
- Hormonal imbalance.
- Sexually transmitted infections.
- High fever.
- Placement of an intrauterine device (IUD).
