Although the general recommendation is the transfer of a single embryo in in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles, sometimes patients wish to have two embryos transferred.
One of the advantages that patients see in having a multiple pregnancy through assisted reproduction is that, with the birth of twins in the same attempt, they will avoid having to repeat part of the treatment again. In addition, the woman will only have to go through one pregnancy and delivery to have her two children.
Patients also see the special bond between the twin siblings as an advantage.
