Although pregnancy develops in the uterus, the meeting of the egg and the sperm takes place at the end of the fallopian tube. The sperm cells break the outer layers of the egg with enzymes that they carry in a region of the head, called acrosomes, thanks to which they can penetrate the egg and fertilize it.
