When a couple decides that the time has come when they are ready to look for a pregnancy, it is important to have a preconception consultation with the gynecologist.
In this consultation, the specialist will perform a gynecological examination of the woman, to check that everything is all right. In addition, the woman will probably be advised to take a folic acid supplement.
Finally, the preconception consultation is also a good time to review the medications taken by the woman, since some of them should be suspended or replaced, even before pregnancy, because they present risks to the fetus.
