Situations in which the use of synthetic oxytocin is not indicated

Synthetic or artificial oxytocin cannot be used in all pregnant women to trigger labour. In women in whom foetal distress or placenta praevia has been detected, for example, artificial oxytocin cannot be used.

Similarly, in women suffering from uterine prolapse or herpes infection, external administration of oxytocin is also contraindicated.
