The ovulatory phase is the 32-36 hour time interval between the peak of luteinizing hormone (LH) and the expulsion of the oocyte from the ovarian follicle (ovulation).
The large LH surge that initiates this phase triggers the maturation of the oocyte to metaphase II stage, as well as the ovulation process itself.
