After childbirth, it is normal for women to experience mood changes. Some moms may develop a mild form of depression called postpartum blues that begins a few days after the baby is born, but lasts no more than 2 weeks.
At this stage the woman may feel sensitive, anxious, irritable and even have trouble sleeping. As the days go by and she gets enough rest and adapts to caring for the baby, the baby blues disappear.
If this stage extends beyond 2 weeks, it may be a sign of postpartum depression, which usually occurs in 2 out of 10 women and can last up to a year.
