Changes in the cardiovascular system during pregnancy

During pregnancy, important physiological changes occur at the cardiovascular level, among which we can highlight the following:

  • Increase in blood volume.
  • Increase in cardiac output.
  • Increase in heart rate.
  • Gradual decrease in blood pressure.
  • Displacement of the position of the heart.
  • Hypercoagulable state.

In addition, it is common for feet, ankles and legs to swell due to fluid retention, since venous return is hindered.
