Pyospalpinx is a term that refers to acute inflammation of the fallopian tubes due to an accumulation of pus in the fallopian tubes. The treatment of this inflammation consists of the administration of antibiotics to reduce the infection.
The infection can reach the fallopian tube through the endometrial mucosa. In addition, diagnosis and treatment of the pyosalpinx is important, otherwise pelviperitonitis may occur.

Despite elimination of the tubal infection, it may happen that the pyosalpinx develops into hydrosalpinx. This means that the fallopian tube will continue to be filled with fluid, although it will not be pus.
