Estimating the time of ovulation (the release of the egg from the ovary) allows a woman to know her most fertile days. Ovulation occurs about 14 days before the next menstrual period, so the woman can calculate from the estimated date of her next menstrual period.
The day of ovulation, the 3-4 days before and the day after are the woman's most fertile days, as this is when there is the greatest chance of the sperm meeting the egg.
However, to estimate more precisely when ovulation occurs, there are several methods such as the saliva ovulation test.
