What are Skene Glands?

The Skene glands, also called the periurethral glands , are glands located on either side of the urethra. These glands are homologous to the prostate in men.

Skene's glands are small, so they go unnoticed except when there is an infection or obstruction. In addition, their secretion is mucous and helps to nourish the sperm, thus facilitating fertilization.
