The number of spermatozoids released during ejaculation varies greatly among men and also within the same man. It depends on the duration of abstinence, on the fatigue and on the health of the man.
Sperm viscosity is analysed in the semenogram. Semen that is too thick can make it difficult for sperm to move up the female reproductive tract.
Semen density can vary for reasons such as:
- Dysfunction of the prostate or seminal vesicles.
- Infections.
- Sperm concentration.
Thus, if the male experiences changes in semen viscosity, it is advisable to see a specialist to study the causes of this variation.
