Haploid gametes and diploid zygote after fertilization

Sperm production takes place in the seminiferous tubules located in the testes. In each testicle there are numerous seminiferous tubules responsible for carrying out the development of the male gametes.

Male gametes are haploid sex cells just like female gametes, i.e. they have 23 chromosomes. Thus, when the union of the egg and sperm occurs, the diploid zygote with 46 chromosomes is formed.
