Hey there
My wife are planning to undergo IVF and I’m trying to understand the data for probability of pregnancy but I don’t get the two different cycles, vitrified and fresh. Please can you explain. Thanks
Hi PeterG
When undergoing an IVF cycle, the first step is the ovarian stimulation to mature the eggs. When they are ready they will be collected in a surgical procedure of egg retrieval. These eggs will be taken to the laboratory and fertilized with the previously prepared sperm sample. Any resulting embryos will be grown for a a few days in the laboratory.
At this point the embryos can be transferred to the woman’s uterus – this is the fresh embryo transfer. Or,
The embyros can be vitrified (frozen). These can then be thawed and transferred to the uterus at a later date. These are the vitrified, or frozen cycles.
You can read more about the embryo transfer step by clicking here.
Both have similar success rates and the procedure will depend on your particular case.
I hope this help.
Kind regards
