Risk factors for prostatitis

Inflammation of the prostate or prostatitis is due to an infection in the prostate. In the case of bacterial prostatitis, the most common cause is usually an E. coli infection.

In contrast, in non-bacterial prostatitis, the causative agent may be a virus, a fungus, a urinary obstruction, phimosis, etc.

In addition to the possible causes of prostatitis, there are also risk factors for this condition. This is the case of HIV, using a urinary catheter, having a biopsy of the prostate for a study, etc.
