Differences between false labour and true labour

In late pregnancy, but before delivery, a woman may experience uterine contractions. These contractions of the uterus are called Braxton-Hicks contractions and are distinctly different from labour contractions.

False labour contractions or Braxton-Hicks uterine contractions are irregular, i.e. they do not recur at certain intervals. Also, if the woman walks while she is having contractions, they will subside.

True labour contractions, on the other hand, are regular and repeat every 5-10 minutes. Moreover, there is no way to stop these contractions.
