It is important to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy, even though they do not cause symptoms in women. If not detected and treated properly, asymptomatic bacteriuria can cause acute pyelonephritis in 30-35% of cases.
For this reason, a urine culture of the pregnant woman is performed in the first trimester analysis. If asymptomatic bacteriuria is detected, antibiotic treatment will be prescribed to reduce the possibility of acute pyelonephritis occurring.
