Vaginal discharge is completely normal in women. In fact, an adolescent girl may observe the presence of vaginal discharge even during the months leading up to her first menstrual period.
In addition, vaginal discharge is closely related to the levels of hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. For this reason, the discharge will experience certain variations throughout the cycle.
In the same way, the hormonal changes that occur in pregnant women will cause vaginal discharge to increase during pregnancy.
However, the cessation of menstrual cycles, i.e., menopause, will cause vaginal discharge to be more scarce, leading to increased vaginal dryness.
