Folic acid or vitamin B9 is found in many foods. However, it is important to ensure an adequate intake of folic acid during pregnancy, since a deficiency of this vitamin can cause neural tube defects.
It is therefore advisable to take folic acid supplements during pregnancy and even during pregnancy planning.
