An adequate supply of folic acid in pregnant women is essential, since its deficit is associated with the appearance of neural tube defects.
The diet should include foods that contain folic acid such as:
- Green leafy vegetables and fruits.
- Legumes.
- Liver.
- Cereals.
- Nuts.
However, to guarantee correct levels of folic acid in pregnant women, the specialist can prescribe supplements even before becoming pregnant.
