Comparison of 2D and 3D ultrasound

Thanks to 3D ultrasound it is possible to differentiate all parts of the fetus' face such as nose, mouth, eyes, ears and even see the facial expressions at the time of its realization. The images are recorded in a computer software and can be recorded later on a CD so that the parents can have a souvenir of their future baby.

However, the 2D ultrasound image is less sharp and in grayscale. This means that it is not possible to distinguish the different fetal features as clearly as with 3D ultrasound.
