With the phenomenon of gastrulation, the trilaminar germinative disc appears with the 3 embryonic layers that will give rise to the rest of the organs of the future baby: the ectoderm, the mesoderm and the endoderm.
The mesoderm cells initiate the formation of notochord, a flexible rod-shaped structure that supports the embryo until the spinal column is formed.
On the other hand, the ectoderm cells give rise to the neural tube that will form the fetal nervous system.
