To make follicular puncture more comfortable and safer for the woman, it is usually performed under deep intravenous sedation. The anaesthesiologist remains in the operating theatre while the procedure is performed and the woman is monitored.
The length of time the woman is asleep is adjusted on a case-by-case basis, depending on the time needed to perform the puncture. However, it is usually 15-20 minutes on average.
Afterwards, the woman is transferred, now conscious, to the recovery room. There, she will be given water or juice and, after checking that she can tolerate the intake, she will be able to go home.
