What is an abnormal uterine bleeding?
Abnormal uterine bleeding refers to any type of bleeding that occurs in the uterus irregularly, unlike what occurs in menstruation.
The exact cause of abnormal uterine bleeding is difficult to establish. However, factors such as age, pregnancy and low levels of estrogen and progesterone can be reasons for this alteration in women.
Other clinical manifestations that women may feel, in addition to irregular bleeding, are the following:
- Vaginal dryness
- Increased body hair.
- Mood swings.
On the other hand, there are several types of abnormal uterine bleeding: menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, polymenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, etc. In any case, it is best to visit a gynecologist in the presence of abnormal uterine bleeding so that he/she can study the origin of the problem.
