AZF region

The AZF region is an area located on the long arm of the Y chromosome in males. This region contains a set of genes involved in spermatogenesis, i.e., in the formation of spermatozoa.
Any alteration or deletion in the AZF region of the Y chromosome can cause the absence of sperm in the ejaculate, which is known as azoospermia.
