Throughout the lactation period, prolactin levels in women are higher than usual. As a result, there is an imbalance in the hormones that regulate the ovarian cycle, causing anovulation, i.e., the absence of ovulation.
In addition, during lactation, the woman will not have menstruation either. For all these reasons, breastfeeding can be considered a contraceptive method. However, it must be taken into account that it can fail, since if ovulation resumes due to a hormonal change, there would be a possibility of pregnancy.
