Given the absence of a female partner in the case of single men and gay couples, gestational surrogacy (i.e. surrogacy with donor eggs) is necessary. With a full, host or gestational surrogacy, the eggs used are not those of the gestational carrier, but from an egg donor, either a known or an anonymous one.
