Embryo vitrification at -196°C

During the embryo vitrification process, after doing a preliminary treatment with cryoprotectants and having put the embryos in the straw, it must be rapidly added to a cuvette containing liquid nitrogen.

After a few seconds, the embryos will be frozen. The next step is to attach gently the straw to the cap, which must have been previously frozen with liquid nitrogen as well.

Finally, the straws with the embryos are stored in canisters that are put within liquid nitrogen tanks, where they will be stored indefinitely at -196 °C.
