Embryo vitrification is a fundamental technique today at fertility clinics, since it allows us to postpone the embryo transfer in case it cannot be performed in a single IVF stimulation cycle.
The main reasons why patients can opt for embryo vitrification (freezing) are:
- Risk of developing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)
- Unused embryos that can be stored for being transferred in subsequent attempts or to have a second child
- Fertility preservation
- While you are waiting for the results of Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
