Endometriosis is one of the main causes of infertility in the female population. The presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus can make natural pregnancy difficult.
For this reason, many women turn to assisted reproduction after trying for some time to become pregnant naturally without success. When endometriosis is minimal or mild, i.e. grade I or II endometriosis, artificial insemination (AI) may be sufficient.
However, if the woman suffers from type III or IV endometriosis, in vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the indicated fertility treatment. In addition, this reproductive option will also be advised for women who, despite having mild endometriosis, have not achieved pregnancy through AI.
