Endometrial tissue plaques, as well as endometriomas or endometriotic cysts, frequently appear in the pelvic organs of the female genital tract, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
They can also originate in other places such as the bladder, the intestine, the peritoneum, the pouch of Douglas or the rectovaginal septum.
There are even other rarer locations where endometriosis can be located, such as the lungs, the navel or the brain.
