What factors increase the risk of endometritis?

Endometritis or inflammation of the endometrium is usually caused by infection. However, there are risk factors for endometritis, such as:

  • Prolonged labor, as the uterus is exposed to bacteria for a long period of time.
  • Cesarean section after making the abdominal incision to remove the baby.
  • Endometrial biopsy due to tissue manipulation.
  • Hysteroscopy.
  • Uterine curettage.

Although these are some risk factors for endometritis, it does not mean that women who go through any of these situations will suffer endometrial inflammation.
