The PESA technique, percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration, is used to obtain sperm from the epididymis in patients with obstructive azoospermia.
This procedure consists in the aspiration of the epididymal contents through a needle, in order to obtain motile spermatozoa. The sample obtained, if it contains motile spermatozoa, can be used in assisted reproduction to perform intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
