Can sperm obtained from a testicular biopsy be used to perform artificial insemination?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).
Last Update: 09/09/2019

No. The amount of sperm obtained in a testicular biopsy is very small, so artificial insemination is not possible.

In these cases, the recommended technique is ICSI.
