Can the transmission of Huntington's disease be prevented?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).
Last Update: 10/26/2023

Yes, Huntington's chorea can be prevented by achieving pregnancy through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) with pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).

With PGD, only healthy embryos that do not contain the Huntington's disease-causing gene mutation will be transferred.
