The symptoms of pregnancy in its early stages are totally unspecific and are often very similar to those that occur in premenstrual syndrome. Mood swings, headaches, abdominal distension, pain in the ovaries or feeling as if a period is coming, are common to both situations and are favored by the hormonal environment in the final phases of the menstrual cycle.
In some cases there is also a psychogenic component that is impossible to establish, that can have an influence to a greater or lesser extent depending on the individual.
