Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that causes an excess of androgens. It is a fairly common condition in women of childbearing age.
PCOS and polycystic ovaries are different terms that should not be confused. Specifically, polycystic ovaries is the presence of different ovarian follicles in an ultrasound scan, a characteristic that may or may not be present in patients with PCOS.
