Chromosomal alterations can be divided into numerical and structural. Structural alterations in chromosomes occur after chromosomal fragments are broken and rearranged.
There are several types of structural alterations, but some of them would be the following:
- Insertions. A chromosome fragment is inserted into another chromosome.
- Inversions. A chromosome fragment is inverted.
- Chromosome ring. A chromosome is circled.
