When HELLP syndrome is diagnosed early and treated, the pregnant woman and her baby need not be in danger. However, at other times, HELLP syndrome can cause:
- Haemorrhage.
- Fluid accumulation in the lungs, i.e. pulmonary oedema.
- Kidney and liver failure.
- Placental abruption.
- Cerebrovascular accident.
- Seizures.
