Why is it called HELLP syndrome?

The name HELLP syndrome is due to a triad of characteristic effects:

  • Haemolysis or destruction of red blood cells.
  • Increased liver enzymes.
  • Decreased platelet levels.

This syndrome can endanger both the health of the mother-to-be and the baby. For this reason, it is essential to carry out a correct diagnosis and treatment.
