It has recently been discovered that the uterus is not sterile and that it harbors its own microbiota. In fact, the uterine microbiome can influence processes such as endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation and, therefore, condition the chances of achieving gestation.
Thus, if Lactobacillus is not the predominant microorganism in the endometrial microbiota, the chances of implantation and pregnancy may be lower.
