Although the exact cause of hypospadias in males is not currently known, there are some factors that increase the risk of the congenital condition.
For example, there is an increased risk of hypospadias in pregnant women over 35 years of age and/or with a high body mass index (BMI). In addition, hormone administration during pregnancy is also a risk factor for hypospadias.
